A brief history about Tulum

Tulum dates back to 564 but the city's heyday was from the eleventh to the fifteenth century: this city had a notable religious significance as well as being a trading center. The Spanish explorer Juan Díaz may have been the first Westerner to visit the city (in 1518), but archaeological interest in this city did not arise until the 19th century. The city is a fascinating pre-Columbian Mayan walled city with several superb temples, three major structures of interest at the Tulum archaeological site: El Castillo, the Temple of the Frescoes, and the Temple of the Descending God.
